詹姆斯·布朗(James Brown 1933-2006)，出生於美國南卡羅萊納州的巴恩韋爾，被譽爲美國靈魂樂的教父（Godfather of Soul），說唱、嘻哈和迪斯科等音樂類型的奠基人。
1953年開始演唱生涯。1965年，詹姆斯·布朗憑藉《老爸的新袋子》獲得格萊美最佳R&B唱片，從20世紀50年代至70年代中期，美國歌壇的兩次變革都與他有關。
布朗一生錄製了逾50張專輯，單曲超過119支。布朗曾於1965年和1987年獲得格萊美兩項大獎，並於1992年加冕格萊美終身成就獎。他還是1986年首批入選搖滾名人堂的歌手之一。
2006年12月25日凌晨1點45分因肺炎不幸在美國去世，享年73歲。
